We are very disappointed to hear Secretary Kerry claim that the democratic elections in Egypt were ‘stolen’ by the previous and overthrown Morsi government.

To accuse the Egyptian people of stealing their own elections is to have a fundamentally skewed view of democracy. We expect Secretary Kerry, a man who himself participated in nearly 10 elections, to possess a better and more clear understanding of the democratic process and not to kowtow to a military establishment that overthrew the first democratically elected government in Egypt’s modern history.

The people of Egypt spoke first with their voices and their protests and spoke second with their votes, both times against the tyrannical military regimes that Secretary Kerry is now directly and indirectly supporting.
